WHO ARE WE

We are Berry & Liz Carter who In October 1984 under the name  LLAMA FARMS, took delivery of 2 male and 2 female llamas from Auckland Zoo and settled on 600 acres of semi wilderness 20 kms south of Cooma NSW to became the first farmers of camelids in Australia for over 100 years, and to create and operate  a farm tourism business. Two years later we acquired 12 alpacas from Chile via N. Zealand and later some guanaco from Taronga Park Zoo. We changed the name of the business to LAMA WORLD. Sadly, we have passed over the remaining two guanaco to John Stafford  (j.stafford@hitco.com.au)  at TARALGA NSW. In 2001 LAMA WORLD closed its tourist function,  disposed of all its alpaca stock and with 80 llamas and four guanacos moved to the alpaca farm of Sue & Phil Mackenzie - MIRRABOOK ALPACAS -  near the town of Berry in NSW to concentrate on the breeding of llamas and the development of a llama market.

The photograph opposite is one of top stud HERCULE fraternising with a team from the Sydney  fashion design company Jemma Jube.  He wants you to know of  his interest in receiving commissions for work outside the normal peramaters of  llama stud duty, which , though greatly appreciated, do not develop his talents to their fullest extent.

ABOUT THIS WEBSITE

Here at last, after a "mere" five years hospitalised with our computer illiteracy, is the update of our website! Its main purpose is to display the full catalogue of our llamas (click CATALOGUE above) and we will try to update it regularly at the latest  with news of our herd, articles, and relevant updates in the llama world generally. You may also be interested in the section devoted to WHY A LLAMA one of the inexhaustible questions.

Meanwhile, if you are new to the world of camelids  (or even if you're not) you may like to obtain by buying from us or borrowing from your local library the book listed below more details of which you will find under PRODUCTS after clicking CATALOGUE above.
